Dear All,

Just a quick query, I have for the past few weeks been suffering from acute right sided plueritic pain (according to gp),
however I dont have a chest infection or any other virus. Ive had a chest xray which was clear and gp thinks I may have muscular pain in rib. Also have had a flare of ra in right shoulder.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this and can shed any light. Have I just over done things or is it ra/lupus related??

Hope this finds you all well,

Ellie x

Dear Ellie, sorry to hear you are experiencing rib pain. It is horrid
and I have been experiencing it on and off for at least a year.
I went to my G.P a couple of times about it and she thought it was a muscular strain.
Mine was related to a Spine problem which has only just been diagnosed due to X ray and M.R.I. scan
whch was ordered when spine and rib pain began.
Hopefully, yours will be due to a strain - my G.P explained that strain injury is very common
in this area and can take 6 weeks to heal.

With kind regards and best wishes,
from FionaRollEyes

Hi Ellie, I have had this since about July and it worries me sick. I also have bad right shoulder on and off so always assume it's connected to that. I mentioned it to GP who said mention it to rheumy, rheumy said mention it to GP - have given up but it still worries me. Am seeing rheumy in Feb so will mention it again. Hope you get some answers.

Hi Ellie,
You can get inflammation of the rib cartiledge with RA and that's what yours sounds like.
I've had it 2 or 3 times and it is painful, you need strong painkillers for it.
Hope it settles down for you soon.

Hi Ellie, I have had this on and off for 3 years now. I have been told it is pleurisy, costochondritis, and arthritis in the rib. Never quite got to the bottom of it, but steroid jabs do wonders for it!!!!!!!

It is very painful, you havre my sympathise. Heat can help. You really need to get to the bottom of what is causing it for you. I hope it either improves or you can get some treatment.

Hi all,
thankyou all so much for your replies, I am so gratefull, I really was begining to think I was going cuckoo....the pain is dreadfull...it feels as if someone has put a spear through the rib!!!

So sad to hear that you guys have had this too, although to be honest somewhat relieved to know what it is...

I have rhuemey in feb so will mention it, gp has said I can take a couple of doses of etoricoxib here and there in the short term to help...but was worried it may interact with mtx so I have to be careful with it...

Many thanks to you all, Ellie Smile

Hi Ellie

Poor you - this is horrid and I'm suffering too at the mo!! Never mind, we can compare notes!

I find that strong co-codamol or Oromorph helps with the pain.

I woke up a couple of days ago thinking someone had kicked me in the ribs and now when I breathe too deeply it kills!! Oh the joys of RA.

Take care, Ellie. Keep warm - lots of wheatie bags or hotties and really hope it boggs off very soon.

Much love

You are right Ellie, it is a dreadful illness, and can be very cruel!
I'm afraid there is no set time for the rib pain to dusappear but I hope yours does, very soon.
As you say, all we want is a little respite so we can stop leaning on our families for a while!
Wishing you all the best for the new year.
Love, Doreen xx

I agree entirely Ellie, no one can possibly understand the effects of this disease until one has it.

Hoping the ribs ease very soon..

Much love,
Amanda

I suffer from rib problems have done from the onset. However it comes and goes and I am grateful for that. As I find bras uncomfortable when my ribs are sore I went out to the sales today and added to my arsenal some pretty bra vests. So I am prepared for next time.

Hope you feel less tender soon

Cool

I'm so sorry, Ellie. I hoped it would be easing off now. If you really can't cope with the pain, you should be seen straight away. Could you ask for a cancellation if one comes up? Our surgery is brilliant - if I ring and say it's urgent, someone always sees me that day. It should be the same for us all.

Please take care and keep taking the tramadol.

Lots of love
Jeanxxx

I know all about that!!LOL Bl**dy painful! However they won't even x-ray for it. All they did for mine was to ultra sound my lung and kidney to make sure they weren't damaged. My two broken ribs were completely healed in 6 weeks! Smile
